MKD 710 – South Africa is Resilient: Lessons from the past in order to imagine a different future.

This was a Department of Historical and Heritage Studies (UP) Honours course project run by Prof. Siona O’Connell, where students were required to curate an online exhibition responding to ‘South Africa is Resilient’.

Online Exhibition:
CELEBRATION IS THE FUTURE AND THE PAST OF SOUTH AFRICA
by Nancy Collett

Given its tumultuous and controversial history, few would deny that the people of South Africa are resilient. Regardless of the proportions of the hurdle to be overcome, South Africans have always been equal to the task. But what allows this resilient spirit to endure?

South Africans have always found a way to celebrate during the most difficult of times. This exhibition makes a look at events, people, and practises that show South Africa’s ability to find joy in the face of even the most adverse circumstances.
